Overcoming Fear

If we are to reign in life through Jesus Christ then we must overcome fear. If we aren’t able to conquer fear then we can’t conquer anything else. Every time we choose to walk in fear we set a trap for ourselves which hinders from fully being and doing what God has called and created us for. Proverbs 29:25 NLT says, “Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.”

Fear is defined as the emotional/spiritual foreboding, apprehension or dread of a forth coming disaster, distress or misfortune. The offspring of fear includes things such as anxiety, worry, tension, stress, etc. It is vitally important for us to take inventory of our soul on a regular basis so that we aren’t becoming “junky” or “cluttered” with fear and it’s offspring. Fear paralyzes us, it halts our forward movement by shifting us out of resting in the finished work of Jesus Christ. As believers we are to live from the position of rest.

How do we overcome fear? Jesus, is how we overcome fear. When what He has done for us becomes the biggest thing in our lives then there is no room for fear. Jesus liberates us from sin and all it’s consequences. We must treat fear like we do sin, with a no tolerance policy. Romans 8:15 And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” If we are believers then fear is alien to us. We are to stay so close to the Father that we have no fear. 1 John 4:18 says that perfect love casts out all fear, it’s the revelation knowledge of God’s perfect love as our reality that overrides the default in our soul. Let’s purpose to forcefully oppose fear, because we reign in life through Jesus Christ.
